HOT TURF!!!
Here in San Juan my most frequent field question has been.." Hey Murray how hot is the field".
Over the weekend we hit temperatures of the turf at 150+ degrees. That is just the surface temperature. Once a clouds passes or a spritz of water hits the field it can immediately drop 30 to 40 degrees. ESPN attempted to fry an egg today but it was a little to cool. Only 140. It needs to be at least 150 and we may hit that today.
One may wonder how a player can handle this type of heat. The heat is not a stranger to players from the Caribbean and all of the second round clubs in the W.B.C. are from the local Islands This tournament is amazing in many ways. Our U.S. ground crew has developed a great bond with the P.R. grounds crew. The success of this field during the tournament is strictly related to the people living (literally) at the stadium on a daily basis during this event.
