Baseball "grows" Worldwide
Over the past few years (28), I have had a chance to check out and work on a number of baseball fields from around the world. As we roll this blog down the road, I hope to showcase some of those wonderful baseball facilities and fields for everyone to see. The coolest part about taking care of any field whether it be Pro, minors or recreational ....is the people you work with. We are going to talk about/with those folks too.
Before we get going, I want to make sure everyone who checks out this site has a voice. If you have a field design, construction or maintenance question or even a photo of your field to share, any and all are more than welcome. If I can't get you an answer, I could get you a link to someone that may.
Everyone has there favorite baseball field photo in the industry. Please share them with your story.
There's a couple of photos I bloged from the 2004 Olympics. We managed the field construction and maintenance of the baseball fields in Athens. Did the same in Sydney in 2000. Funny and true story from Athens 2004.
Opening night Netherlands and Greece....full house 9000....Hellas (Greece) in the field...first pitch its a ball...the crowd roars....second pitch foul ball.....the crowd roars.....third pitch called strike....the crowd roars. All the players are now looking at each other with a puzzled expression, like you have got to be kidding me. 8800 people in the stands had never seen a baseball game! Finally , the 4th pitch (foul ball) lands behind the plate in the stands. Someone eventually picks it up and throws it back over the backstop onto the field....rolls under umpires feet. Time-out is called so the public address announcer can state in 3 languages that its OK for people to keep the baseballs hit into the stands. That is one of 100 stories that I could share. Some are rated a R so lets keep it clean.
Anyway look forward to your comments and questions?
